High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Medical Assistant Diploma from an approved school /institution or equivalent documented training.
Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experienceÂ
Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures desired.
BLS - Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
Preferred
Medical Assistant CertificationÂ
Pediatric experience
EPIC experience - highly preferredÂ
Strong Back-office skills - highly preferredÂ
Skillset and Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to use and apply medical terminology in performing duties
Knowledge of coding and billing regulations
Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job
Strong ability to multi-task and collaborate with others
Responsibilities
Front office duties: Scheduling, Checking patients in, insurance verification, answering phones, taking messages/transferring to the appropriate person/department, faxing, scanning, filing
Rooming patients
Assists physicians with procedure set-ups, patient procedures and examinations.Â
Back office: Performs patient care, including vital signs, weights, rooming, assisting with procedures, medication administration (vaccinations) and injections and other necessary tests.
Effectively responds to inquiries from patients, their relatives and/or referring physicians on services and provides accurate information in a timely fashion.
Informs patient’s authorization and collects payment for new and returning patients, using the scheduling system.Â
Collects patient demographic and insurance data and enters into systems as well as assigns medical record numbers
Assures appropriate verifications and authorizations are complete before patient sees provider
Assists with all messaging from the patient to the physician in a timely manner.
Collects and sends specimens to appropriate labs for testing per protocol
