Patient Access Representative (PAR)-Emergency Department

About the role: Location: Palo Alto, CA Pay: $35.00–$40.00/hour (DOE) Schedule: Wednesday–Sunday Shifts: 5:00 PM–1:30 AM Duration: 13 weeks (with likely extension to 5–6 months) Start Date: ASAP

Required Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in Patient Access, Registration, or Front Desk roles.
Must have experience in ER or Urgent Care settings.
Skills:
In-depth understanding of insurance verification processes, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, and PPO.
Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare insurance programs.
Competence in using EPIC or similar electronic medical record systems.
Strong communication and customer service abilities.
Capability to excel under pressure and handle patient inquiries efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Warmly greet patients and assist with registration, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Verify insurance eligibility for various programs (Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, Workers' Compensation, etc.).
Securely process payments, including co-pays and deductibles.
Address patient inquiries and concerns, escalating complex cases when needed.
Collaborate with physicians and medical teams to provide seamless patient care.
Accurately document patient information in EPIC, adhering to hospital policies and billing regulations.
Contribute to maintaining smooth patient flow within the healthcare facility.
